New Year’s is coming up and a lot of people are considering what resolutions they’re going to try out. Losing weight, exercising more, and eating better are amongst the most popular resolutions every year. Most people stick to their resolution for about a month, and then all of a sudden the busyness of life settles in again. However, eating healthy doesn’t have to be time consuming! We’ve compiled some tips and tricks to help you get into the groove of meal prepping this year.

Create a schedule

First and foremost, you’ll want to create a schedule for grocery shopping and meal prepping. Try to choose a day where you usually don’t have many other commitments, perhaps a Sunday or Monday evening. Make sure you allocate enough time to create a grocery list, go shopping, and then complete post-shopping prep, such as washing produce and cutting and organizing food.

Stock up on staples

Nothing is worse than trying to make a meal and realizing you’re missing one simple ingredient. Make sure to stock up on staples, such as oils, spices, and whole grains. This way, when you go grocery shopping, you’ll mostly just have to worry about restocking your fresh foods. The more staple items you have, the more meal prep options you have!

Don’t be afraid of frozen or pre-cut foods

Normally when we think of frozen foods, we think of microwaveable dinners or over-processed breakfast foods. Don’t be afraid to save yourself some time! Frozen or pre-cut fruits are awesome for smoothies, and you can also easily incorporate pre-cut vegetables into your recipes.

Make sure to include each food group in your meals

If you’re struggling to figure out what meals to prepare, this is for you. Also, start with easy recipes and slowly work your way to more complicated ones. You should at least have a protein, a grain, and a fruit or vegetable for each meal. Remember the saying “eat the rainbow!”

Invest in good containers

Yes, this actually helps! Investing in containers with compartments will make it much easier to gauge what you’re missing from your meals. Quality containers will also help keep your food fresh longer. Don’t forget to consider factors such as microwave safe or dishwasher safe, depending on what you’re making. Also, choosing containers that you enjoy looking at makes meal prepping much more fun!

Designate a place for recipes

Organization is one of the main keys to successful meal prepping! Designate a place for your recipes and keep them organized. You can sort them based on breakfast, lunch, and dinner, by ingredients, or however you’d like! After trying a recipe, go back and make notes; keep track of the difficulty, if you enjoyed the meal, and what you would do differently next time.

Conclusion

Eating healthy might seem intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be! The goal is to simplify the process as much as possible; stay organized, find recipes that you enjoy, and don’t be afraid to cut corners! You want to feel satisfied and happy, not stressed and hungry!
