Yoga is a practice that has been around for thousands of years and is known for its ability to improve both physical and mental well-being. If you’re new to yoga, it can be a bit intimidating to know where to start. Here are some basic yoga poses that are great for beginners:

  • Mountain Pose (Tadasana) – This is a simple standing pose that helps to improve posture and balance. Start by standing tall with your feet together and your arms by your sides. Engage your core and lengthen through the crown of your head.
  • Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana) – This pose is great for stretching the whole body and is often used as a transition between other poses. Start on your hands and knees with your wrists under your shoulders and your knees under your hips. Curl your toes under and lift your hips up and back, straightening your arms and legs. This should look like an upside down “V.”
  • Warrior I (Virabhadrasana I) – This pose strengthens the legs and arms while also stretching the chest and shoulders. Start in Mountain Pose and step your left foot back, turning it out to a 90-degree angle. Bend your right knee and lift your arms overhead, parallel to the ground.
  • Tree Pose (Vrikshasana) – This pose helps to improve balance and focus. Start in Mountain Pose and shift your weight to your left foot. Bring your right foot up to rest on your inner left thigh, pressing the sole of the foot firmly into the thigh. Bring your hands to the prayer position at your heart.
  • Child’s Pose (Balasana) – This is a great pose for relaxation and stretching the back. Start on your hands and knees and sit back on your heels. Slowly lower your torso down onto your thighs and extend your arms out in front of you.

These are just a few of the many yoga poses that are great for beginners. Remember to always listen to your body and only go as far as you feel comfortable. As you continue to practice, you’ll gain more strength and flexibility, and be able to explore more advanced poses. Additionally, it is always recommended to work with a Yoga instructor to guide you and make sure you are doing the pose safely. If you’re interested in trying out yoga, contact us here!
